259 days to go: Flamenco Flamenco

When I took these photos this morning I had no idea what was in store.
I had woken at 6am to write my NaNoWriMo novel before running the dog to the beach and then getting the children up ready for school.
I had a morning's work ahead of me before a 1pm appointment at the hairdressers.
"Are you going out tonight?" she asked.
"No," I laughed. As if a mother of four would go out on a Monday evening.
But as I returned to my car to collect my youngest from school the phone rang. It was my husband to say that we were going out.He had booked the tickets and the babysitter (my mum) and we had to be ready for 6.30pm.
At 6.30pm I was still sorting the children out.
"I need to change."
"Don't worry, you are fine."
We got into the car and headed towards Liverpool. We passed the Everyman theatre where the sell-out performance of King Lear was just about to start, along Hope Street to the Philharmonic Theatre.
There were just a few minutes to spare before we rushed in to collect the tickets.
It was a one night only performance by the world's greatest Flamenco guitarist, Gerardo Nunez and his wife, Carmen Cortes, one of the world's greatest Flamenco dancers.
Can you believe it.
This morning I was fantasising about Flamenco for my photos and here I am watching the greatest show on earth.
How lucky am I?

I wore

Red skirt eBay
Black tights and shoes - tesco
Next shirt
M&S cami
Black vest - Oasis
Scarf - M&S

Hair yesterday - Gone Today

This post when I asked whether I should get a haircut got one of my biggest responses ever.
It has taken a while but I have finally gone and done it.
Here is me on Sunday.
And another at the same time on Monday.
I'm not asking which you prefer it may depress me but it is part of my master plan to be an elegant 60-something with a stylish white bob.

Read All About It - while you still can!

Fellow bloggers I am afraid the credit crunch has squashed my online Book Club.
No longer can I ring publishers up and ask for the latest best seller to review for the Book Club.
Here's the link before it vanishes without a trace.
It was great while it lasted. I got to interview some brilliant writers such as Anne Fine (pictured), Joseph Delaney, Sophie Hannah and Patrick Gale.
I have already done another interview and a review which I will include on this blog as I no longer have an official Book Club platform.
Maybe it's the universe's way of telling me to concentrate on my own book!

260 days to go: Fantasy football manager

Last year I was invited to watch Liverpool play Chelsea in the Champions League semi-final.
My husband was disgusted.
And quite rightly so.
While he and our three sons who are Liverpool fans watched the game on the television I sat in hospitality with a pitchside view of the lovely Jose Mourhino.
Did I feel guilty? Not a bit.
For the last ten years I have spent most winters watching my boys play, smiling sweetly as I froze on the sidelines.
(Am I the only one who cheers when the referee blows the final whistle?)
But I digress.
For the past six years my husband has been a football manager. OK so it may only be little league football but it gives me plenty of scope to fulfill my fantasies of being a certain football manager's wife.
And if I stand at the opposite side of the pitch and leave my glasses at home my husband has the look of a certain manager.
But I can't imagine Mrs Mourhino has to slum it on the sidelines trying to keep warm like I did today.
Ah well I can dream.

I wore..
Gap jeans
Black boots (Zara)
Thermal long sleeved T- shirt - M & S
Grey wool jumper (Espirit)
Fur gilet (as yesterday_
Long green cord trench coat which is a size too big to allow for all my layers
Mint green pashmina (free with magazine)

261 days to go: Party Clothes

I am feeling a little worse for wear today after too many spirits infected my drink at the Halloween Party!
We had a great time even though dh and I were the only people who bothered to wear fancy dress.
I am not normally an over-confident person but I think dressing up gave me the licence to be a little braver.
We walked right into the party late (my husband had football practice first) and made a dramatic entrance.
I walked straight over to a woman I recognised by sight but had never spoken to before and just started talking.
It did help that it was about books and she works in the local bookshop (where I recognised her from).
So clothes can be magic.
Today I rose at 6.30am to start my NaNoWriMo novel - I am sure you will be hearing a lot more of this over the coming days - before taking my eldest son to the coach station.
The theme for this week will be "dress up."
I am inspired by an interesting article in last Saturday's Daily Telegraph supplement about Barneys window dresser Simon Doonan.
He was asked: "Question you are always asked at parties"
He replied: "I usually tell people, "Go home, take all of your sensible work clothes, give them to charity and then just wear party clothes for the rest of your life."
So I am wearing..
Pink party sequin skirt from Monsoon
Black Polo - New Look
Fur gilet - Asda (children's section)
Black tights - New Look
Shoes - Clark's

262 days: later - Halloween!
